Abstract

This article presents discussions and results regarding a survey conducted with consumers
and farmers from Upper Rio Pardo Territory, northern Minas Gerais state, between the years
2014 and 2015. The research was carried out by an interdisciplinary team from the Center for
Studies in Social Management And Solidarity Economy of the Institute of Agrarian Sciences
of the Federal University of Minas Gerais in partnership with the Nova Esperança Agricultural
Family School, the Secretariat of Agriculture and the Union of Rural Workers of the municipality
of Taiobeiras. The goal of the study was to understand aspects of supply and demand of
products, especially agroecological products, in this trade space which also represents the
local culture. The results show that Taiobeiras free trade fair generates a significant income;
however, there is a great potential for the supply of agroecological products which is not being
properly fulfilled.
