Abstract

The research aimed to assess the population dynamics of plants spontaneous in four doses of
babassu palm thatch on the cultivar of rice creole Comecru in the Baixada Maranhense. The
experiment was conducted in the area of farmer in Arari – MA in blocks at random with four doses
of straw crushed (0, 15, 20, 25 t. h-1). The collection of the plants of spontaneous was carried
out with a rectangle metal 0.5 m x 0.3 m. The plants were counted, identified and dried in
an oven to obtain the dry matter. The phytosociological index obtained were: Relative Density,
Relative Frequency, Relative Dominance and Importance Value Index. In the vegetative phase
and reproductive rice, the straw was not efficient in controlling species of monocotyledons,
C. spp., F. dichotoma, Juncus sp and D. riparian and eudicots, A. tenella, L. octovalvis and P.
tenellus. The most important genus on mulching of babassu straw was the Cyperus, standing
out in the reproductive phase the species Cyperus iria.
