Potential uses of secondary forests in northeastern paraense

Abstract

The objective of this work is to evaluate the perspectives and possibilities of income promotion
of family farmers through the secondary forests of northeast Pará. Six areas were selected
that present secondary forest for the study, two in Capitão Poço and four in Bragança. In this
process, some potentials of the areas were identified for a more sustainable use, using systematic
management of vegetation, of which Bacuri (Platonia insignis Mart.) Was outstanding.
In general, forestry (planting of seedlings) needs to be tightened with forest management and
ecology, although secondary forest has the capacity and potential to generate income for the
family farmer, it is indisputable the need to carry out enrichment plantations Species of commercial
interest, be they timber or not, but mainly of tolerant species.
