Previously linked only to extractivism, the need to increase production as a result of increased
demand for the açaizeiro fruit has influenced the way in which the production system is
managed, with many farmers making drastic management, with undesirable consequences
under agroecological point of view. Thus the present work deals with the relations between
the conditions of rural establishments and the restrictions and possibilities of management
and production of the açaizeiro in communities of the municipality of Cametá. . The research
is in progress and corresponds to the graduation work of the first author. The study includes
establishments that dedicate themselves mainly to the production of açai. The results obtained
include socioeconomic aspects and characteristics of the vegetal exploration. There is a
diversity among the characteristics given to rural establishments, which results in differences
between the intensity of the açaí management according to the size of the establishments, the
area of fo used in the management and the availability of upland. The first evidence is that establishments
with smaller acai harvest areas tend to produce more for sale and intensify more
the management of this culture.
