Promoting intercropping as a strategy to improve soil use in rural properties in the Amazon, the
present study aimed to evaluate the cost of implementing an agroforestry system in different
conditions of preparation and management of areas. For this, input, labor and machine hours
values were recorded over the first fourteen months of implementation. When evaluating the
introduction of planting in different modalities (mechanized and semi-mechanized), the agroforestry
system was observed without the use of fire and mechanization indicated a higher
cost (R $ 8,115.58) than the same arrangement introduced with the use of implements (R $
6,191.48). Of the total costs, the amount disbursed for cleaning and preparation of the area that
consumed between 38 and 45% of the resource was highlighted. The implementation of an
agroforestry system requires a large amount of resources, which indicates the need for bank
or government support to make this type of activity feasible for family farmers.
