This text presents an experience of university extension to young people from Mata Sul and
Sertão do Pajeú, from Pernambuco. It is part of the agroecological training program that aims
to strengthen the capacities and skills of rural youth, allowing them to expand their autonomy
and opportunities for improving their rural life. The program is oriented by the pedagogy of alternation,
to train young multipliers who must carry out productive and organizational projects
with other young people through training activities. Pedagogical visits were made in order to
know the realities lived by the young people and to evaluate the progress of their projects.
During the visits there are moments of reflection, among them, the environmental perceptions
of the young people about the community in which they live. It is noticed that young people
are adopting agro-ecological alternatives to overcome environmental problems, with a view to
the sustainable management of natural resources. In addition, this project contributes to the
pedagogical training of undergraduate students in Agricultural Sciences.
