Abstract

The intercropping allows the diversification of production systems, exerts influence on the development
of spontaneous plants and increases the ecological balance of the productive system.
In front of the above, the objective was to evaluate the use of mulch in the control of spontaneous
plants in carrot intercropping with lettuce. The experiment was conducted in UFRA,
Paragominas Campus. The experimental design used was completely randomized in a 3x2
factorial scheme, with 4 replications. Being single lettuce, single carrot and carrot consortium
with lettuce and mulch: with and without cover. After 20 days after sowing, the spontaneous
plants were identified. The production systems in consortium had a lower rate of infestation
of spontaneous plants compared to the single production system. The use of mulch and the
production system in consortium showed to be efficient in the control of spontaneous plants.
