Organic carbon and bulk density in a Argissolo Vermelho Amarelo of a family farm
Keywords:
agricultural ecosystems, soil quality, storage of organic carbonAbstract
Organic carbon and density are relevant attributes to characterize soil quality in the monitoring
of sustainable agricultural systems. The objective of this work was to evaluate the attributes:
total organic carbon (COT), stprage of organic carbon (ECOT) and the bulk density (Ds) and
related them in an Argisol under different uses (fallow, maize and pasture), in a farm, located
in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul. Undeformed and deformed samples were collected in the 0.00
to 0.10 m layer. The results indicated that the systems of use induced changes in the evaluated
attributes. Greater values of density were obtained in the pasture area, and for COT and ECOT,
the following sequence of values was obeyed: fallow> maize> pasture.
