Field education and agroecology ECOAm in the zona da mata mineira

Abstract

The creation and recent institutionalization of the Field Education and Agroecology Center,
strengthens the construction of agroecological knowledge in the Zona da Mata mineira. This
construction, based on the dimensions of science, movement and practice, began with the
approach of groups of alternative agriculture of the Federal University of Viçosa, the Center for
Alternative Technologies of Zona da Mata and family farmers’ organizations, in the 1970s. This
agroecological knowledge, developed collectively and had its origin from the critique of social
movements to the Green Revolution. The proposal of creation of the Nucleus appeared in the
years of 1990, however, institutionalization occurred only in 2016. The consolidation of the
institutionalization process involved many efforts, as well as the strengthening of relations with
social movements, as well as the development of a set of actions through access to research,
teaching and extension edicts.
