Paraíba state university agroecologic rural extension – NEAR-UEPB: connecting forces and transforming the public university and the field work

Abstract

NERA is a 5 years experience of working in research, extension and Education/teaching in
Agroecology and Peasantry, from strategic alliances with organizations and social movement
of Paraíba and of projects related to the Education program PRONERA on land reform and the
PNAPO-National Policy of Agroecology and Organic Production, from the governmental action
to promote the NEAs-Study Nucleus in Agroecology. Involved actions in all the territories of
family farming of Paraíba, Brasil, connecting the Bachelor of Agroecology at UEPB to the dynamics
of Agroecology, increasing therefore the interfaces between the University and society.
NERA conducted Participatory Action Research processes in the different realities of Paraíba
and renewed the bachelor curriculum of Agroecology -UEPB and experienced a pedagogic
project of the specialization course in Agroecology applied to Dry Lands.
