The 1st Week of Agroecology of UNESP – RIO CLARO: beside the technique

Abstract

Gira-Sol is a university extension group which has students from several courses in the areas
of biosciences and geosciences. In ten years of existence, the search for an understanding of
what is Agroecology was constant. In this period, principles such as horizontality, self-management
and knowledge sharing were moulded. The idea of Agroecological Week arose from the
need to overcome the walls of the university and strengthen articulations, also giving theoretical
basis to understand Agroecology. The experience provided the Gira-Sol with political and
organizational accumulation, as well as bringing the public closer to the scientific, technical
and, above all, agroecology policies. The structure of the event sought to maintain the heterogeneity
of activities and themes, generating a diversified educational environment. It is hoped
that the event will be repeated annually and strengthen agroecology in the campus of UNESP
Rio Claro and provide advances in the formation of agroecological agents.
