Abstract

Due to the requirements of the Law of Protection of Native Vegetation (popularly known as
New Forest Code), it is imminent, the search and wide availability by strategies and species
that relate the ecological restoration with the economic use and generation of income by the
family agriculture. Among the shrub and tree species of great daily use by farmers in the Pampa
biome, the Fabaceae and Myrtaceae families stand out, with a wide range of uses in the
rural environment, and also have potential for ecological restoration. The objective of this work
was to survey species of the families Fabaceae and Myrtaceae for restoration and economic
use and to carry out a comparison between these families. Thirty - eight species of shrubs
and trees native to the Pampa biome of the families Fabaceae (20 species) and Myrtaceae (18
species) were evaluated. The three most frequent uses were: ornamental, timber and firewood
for both families. This work adds information that can encourage the use of these species for
several economic purposes, adding value to the rural property and at the same time adapting
the farmer to the current legislation.
