The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of substrates based on carbonized sawdust
in the development of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) cv. Great Lakes in the municipality of
Marabá-Pará. A randomized block design with eight treatments and four replications was used.
The treatments consisted of: tanned bovine manure, soil, soil conditioner and charred sawdust,
from these materials 8 substrates were obtained. The parameters used for the evaluation were:
fresh aerial mass (MFPA), dry shoot mass (MSPA), fresh root system (MFSR) and dry mass
of the root system (MSSR). It was analyzed that the plants corresponding to the treatment of
soil, manure and charcoal sawdust in the proportion of 1: 1: 1 were the ones that obtained the
highest averages for the parameters (MFPA), (MSPA). In the parameter (MSSR) and (MFSR),
SSC 1: 1 presented the highest mean. The substrates based on charred sawdust obtained a
good performance in relation to the production of American lettuce seedlings cv. ‘Great Lakes’.
