This work was performed by using the proposed methods in the theoretical background of the
social metabolism and with the objective to analyse the strategies of resistance and support
adopted by the indigenous community in Oaxaca, México. The results found in the analysis
of the cash flow were sorted out into three different groups: the CE (Conserved Environment)
which was formed by a reservoir area located around the community. The UE (Used Environment)
was formed by the coffee plantations and the “acahualt” and the TE (Transformed Environment)
which was formed by the “milpa”, “potrero” and the backyard. When analysing the
dynamic equilibrium of the community (the economic and ecological exchanges), it was found
that families have an average positive balance in this matter. Besides that, the SE (Social Environment)
is the complementary source of income for the families that participate (remittances,
employment, subsidies, and credit coming from their own community institutions).
