This report presents the work experience of Embrapa Agrobiology ‘s agricultural landscape
ecology group and the relationship established with the farming families of the settlement
of São José da Boa Morte, Cachoeiras de Macacu, RJ. During the years of operation, participatory
research is one of the principles to facilitate the dialogue of scientific and popular
knowledge, promoting the construction of knowledge and technical interventions from the point
of view of agroecology. Research on different scales of the landscape, from the productive
system to the hydrographic basin, as well as the understanding of the relationship between
the management of agroecosystems and the quality of the natural ecosystems, has helped in
the interpretation of reality and reflections on new studies and interventions. All the advances
made in the practices and technologies developed were only possible due to the respect and
dialogue established with the families over the years.
