Monitoring of agroforestry systems with the use of AutoCAD

Abstract

The project named “The strengthening of the use of agroforestry systems as an alternative
for sustainable production in the Settlement Sepé Tiarajú” has been developing since 2014,
with the establishment or reform of 35 experiences of agroforestry systems (SAFs). The SAFs
followed the recommendations of the project edictal and the technical assistance and combines
several native and exotic species, fruit trees and annual crops. But while most fruit trees
are known to the farmers, many of the native and exotic species are recent introductions, what
makes the identification and the knowledge of the role they play in the system more difficult.
In order to monitor the evolution of these systems and to create maps that can help farmers to
identify species that they don`t know yet, in some SAFs all plants were mapped with the help of
the AutoCAD tool. That enables farmers and technicians to follow the changes in the systems,
with the eventual death and substitution of species.
