The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Lippia
alba leaves against Gram-positive strain (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538) and Gram-negative
strain (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922). Antibacterial activity was performed by disk diffussion
method. The results showed activity of the extract against the Gram-positive strain, with
measures of 7 mm diameter of the bacterial growth inhibition area formed around the disc with
extract. For Gram-negative strain there was no antimicrobial activity. The extract tested showed
antibacterial activity against Gram-positive strain and potential to optimization the extract
extraction and solubilization method.
