Abstract

The use of low quality irrigation water has compromised the production of agrosystems in arid
zones. Thus, it is necessary to study in this area, aiming at the use of sustainable practices
and varieties tolerant to these conditions. Therefore, the objective of the study was to evaluate
the twinning of almeirão seeds submitted to different concentrations of salinity. The evaluated
characteristics were: first germination count, percentage of germination, germination speed
index and average germination time. As doses of sodium chloride were set at: 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12
g.L-1. The water salinity levels significantly reduced the first count, final germination and germination
speed index of the seeds, as well as the increase of the average germination time. As
the saline concentration in the soaking solution increases, it is observed that the germination
process of the seeds is interfered.
