Challenges of water use in food production in the Mãe Maria settlement project in the municipality of Alto Boa Vista - MT: a perspective on awareness

The settlement (P.A.) Mãe Maria, is concentrated in the municipality of Alto Boa Vista - MT, in
the Araguaia Xingu region, at a distance of 671, 21km from the capital Cuiabá. As every production
system demands the use of water, measures to conserve that natural good are of paramount
importance. The period of drought is very extensive in this region and the agroecological
measures in the production systems is an alternative that has to be used in this settlement.
The objective of this work was to analyze the use of water in the Mãe Maria settlement project.
A semi-structured questionnaire was used to address such aspects as the activities developed and the use of water resources, using a qualitative-quantitative methodology. The agricultural
system is supplied mainly by streams 54.76%, followed by 26.19% streams and dams, 11.90%
from dams alone and 7.14% from springs. It is important to highlight the importance of sustainability,
and for this it is necessary that there is an awareness of the producers.
