The agroforestry system (Agrocaatinga), implemented at the Technical Demonstration Unit
(UTD) of the IFRN - Campus Ipanguaçu, demonstrates an integrated area with native, fruit
and agricultural plants, which provides a basic unit of Teachers for students and students of
the campus, In addition to providing farmers with a model area of agricultural and livestock
production, based on semi-arid conditions. The system was installed based on the SAF proposed
by Embrapa Technical Circular 16. The implantation work was carried out in three stages,
with forest species and biopesticides (Sabiá, Catingueira, Jucá, Anjicos, Oiticica, Oiti, Pereiro,
Embiratanha, Cumaru and Caraibeira) at the first moment. In the second stage, the fruit trees
(Acerola, Ciriguela, Pinha, Umbu- cajá, Pitanga, Araçá, Tamarina and Carnaúba) were planted.
Finally, in the third stage, the agricultural species (Jerimum, Maize and Feijoo de Porco) were
added. With the implantation, it was possible to provide a field day for farmers, technicians,
teachers and students of the Assú valley microregion, also allowing an area for agroecological
experiments for the scholarship holders of the Agroecology Study Center (NEA); The space
helped them to practice their knowledge about agroecological practices.
