Forest nursery as space for the teaching learning processin Agroecology at Settlement Volta Terra, Cruz das Almas, BA

The present report aims to describe the implementation of the project “Forest Nursery as a
teaching space learning in Agroecology”, carried out within the framework of the actions of the
Interdisciplinary Action Group on Agroecology - GAIA, in the Volta Terra settlement in Cruz
das Almas - BA. GAIA is an autonomous group, with no institutional link, formed by students
from Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia - UFRB, who works with popular advice to
rural communities. Among the actions carried out by the group are the strengthening of popular
organization and agroecological production. The objective of the project in question was to
deal with the production of seedlings by linking the knowledge of the transition to consolidation
of this production, with different purposes, in the settlement, through activities such as agroecological
training workshops and collective works to maintain the structure of the nursery. The
project resulted in the satisfactory participation of the community and the exchange of knowledge
on agroecological techniques in the workshop moments. Finally, the first steps were taken
to consolidate the production of seedlings and nursery management in the settlement.
