The SPG as a method of ATER

Abstract

This work aims to discuss the Sistema Participativo de Garantia (SPG) as one possible extension
method, applied in the context of the Associação Agroecológica de Teresópolis/RJ (AAT).
It is a qualitative research which set out to investigate this matter from the accomplishment of
bibliographical research and open interviews. The SPG has emerged as a tool for the exchange
of agroecological experiences and knowledge, and suppressed ATER´s system deficiencies
faced by the Associação Agroecológica de Teresópolis. This article is a byproduct of a
more extensive research that yielded also the master’s dissertation of the first author.
