HAPPA: Participative Experience of the Agroecological Orchard of the Agroecology Postgraduate Program - State University of Maranhão - Brazil

This essay aims to divulge the experience and to evaluate the impact and projection of the HAPPA
- Agroecological Orchard of the Agroecology Postgraduate Program (HAPPA) at the State
University of Maranhão - UEMA (Brazil). In a small-diversified area were produced organically,
20Kg of cherry tomatoes, 10Kg of lettuce and 4.5Kg of okra, among others; and registered
organisms and their ecological relationships. Using structured questionnaires was identified
the lack of planning as the main threat to the Orchard sustainability and growing its own food
and putting theory into practice as main benefits. With an increase in the number of members
(20) is expected expand the cultivation area, increase the plant diversity, and disseminate the
experience for influence positively the university community and the society in general.
