Field day in demonstration unit of family-based agroecological production: training of rural farmers and students

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to verify the effectiveness of the use of a demonstration
unit associated with field day to carry out the transfer of organic production technologies
to a group of family farmers. The Chacara of number 36 of the Chapadinha Settlement, in the
Rural Nucleus Lago Oeste, Federal District, received the following techniques over 12 months:
1) agroecological corridors type windbreak; 2) consortium of diverse vegetables between windbreak
barriers and 3) tank technology for irrigation. At the end of a year of visits by technicians
and students to the property to set up this demonstration unit, the Special Day in Agroecology
was organized in partnership with Emater-DF and the association of rural producers ASTRAF.
The audience was composed of 130 people, among farmers, their families and students. The
model that combines demonstrative unit and field day proved to be efficient in the transfer of
technologies and exchange of knowledge, as it aroused in the visitors the curiosity about the
technologies and the need to deepen the knowledge about the techniques presented there.
