Agroecology: research and extension through NEPEA

Abstract

The Interdisciplinary Center for Research and Extension in Agroecology - NEPEA - based
in the Catalan Regional of the Federal University of Goiás, was designed to foster proposals
and actions for sustainable rural development. He is a researcher, technician and agriculturist
with a focus on ecologically based farms in Southeast Goiania (GO). It performs and encourages
research based on sustainable agriculture and tree arrangements for the rehabilitation
of degraded areas. It maintains and uses an area within the rural property of the UFG in the
municipality of Catalão where it promotes experiments and experiments in Agroecology, green
manuring, agroforestry, in addition to sustainable practices and conservationists, among which
are the production of native species of the Cerrado from Seeds collected on the farm itself and
those acquired in the market. NEPEA also carries out extension activities in schools where it
promotes, advises and implements school gardens and pedagogical nurseries, within a broad
socio-environmental education program.
