Land, water and urban agriculture – possible convergence in territorial struggles of Rio de Janeiro’ west zone

Abstract

The experience reported here highlights the existence of a recent process of convergence
between two movements, apparently with few common approaches and agendas, in Rio de
Janeiro’ west zone. In a context marked by the historical violation of access to land, a specific
fact combined - and favoured - at the same time the struggle against evictions in favor of the
right to housing and the struggle for land, water and urban agriculture.
