Diffusion of agroforestry knowledge in the zona da mata of minas gerais

Abstract

The Apêti Group has been working with the study and practice of Agroforestry Systems (SAFs)
since 1995 in Viçosa - Minas Gerais. It operates in the area of agroecological production and
sustainable agroecosystems. It aims to supply the demand for training spaces on SAFs at
the Federal University of Viçosa, strengthen the agroecological movement, sensitize those
involved in the values of cooperation and recovery of traditional knowledge, systematize theoretical
and practical knowledge in agriculture and disseminate agroecology and Agroforestry
systems for farmers in the region. The group develops weekly operations at the Center for Alternative
Technologies in the rural area of the municipality of Viçosa and facilitates, seasonally,
workshops and experiences on SAFs. The activities have contributed to the understanding
and diffusion, both for the academic public and for farmers and technicians of the region, of
agroforestry principles and techniques as a viable alternative of production.
