Abstract

From one proposal for a master’s course in Sustainable Development and Extension, it was
built a work that describes an experience with a producer of organic food in southern Minas
Gerais. Faced with the difficulties posed by the capitalist structure to the rural environment
and family agriculture, was sought to understand what leads a farmer to produce organic food
in the current context. In this sense, the researcher sought practical references to answer this
question, which led him to visit a property that has produce food without poison for 37 years,
but which has recently been certified organic. The farmer was interviewed by the form of a
semi-structured questionnaire and a short audio was recorded, the production unit was also
observed. In the end, it was perceived that the agricultural practices used and the aggregation
of value to the production sustain the property, however they are social and environmental
issues that motivate the farmer to continue his path in the day to day.
