Ecological farming and better usage of common spaces within the campus of the Federal University of Santa Catarina

The following paper narrates the experiences of the project Horta Orgânica do CCA (HOCCA),
from its creation and consolidation until the results that this initiative has been achieving. Aspects
such as the fortification of the project as a group; the expansion of neglected common
spaces’ usage for food growing and the propagation of the knowledge, research and extension
at urban agriculture at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) are exhibited. Project
HOCCA has been contributing to the understanding of ecological farming and opening the doors
of the university to the whole community, through technic-thematic workshops, reasserting
the importance of projects of research and extension with the aim of encourage urban ecological
farming and instruct good extension professionals.
