Low cost bokashi compost prepared in a joint effort system with the organic group of the Santa Helena Settlement, São Carlos, São Paulo

The Santa Helena Settlement is located in the Balneário do 29, Municipality of São Carlos-
-SP, with 14 families settled. Of the 14 settled families, 8 have been carrying out activities and
practices in organic production, are part of the OCS Nova Santa Helena group and the Nova
Santa Helena Producers Association. The preparation of the bokashi compound aimed to share
the technique of preparation and use, favoring the exchange of knowledge with visits to the
agrosystems of the OCS group. The bokashi composting practice was carried out in a grouping
system in 7 lots and with 8 families from PDS Santa Helena, members of the OCS group with
local partners and other guests among them traditional farmers and agrarian reform settlers,
graduates, teachers and Researchers. The cost of bokashi produced collectively in a joint effort
of R$ 355.50/t is considered low when compared to the price of commercial products that
reach up to 6 times the value.
