Abstract

From the world’s greatest concern with quality of life and awareness of how food is produced,
recent data has shown a significant growth in the search for organic products. In the municipality
of Itaqui, Rio Grande do Sul, the reality is not different, since this reality is an opportunity
for survival of family farmers. In this context, the objective of the work is to identify who are the
consumers of organic products and their direct influence on the life of the farmers familiar of
this municipality. The research concluded that the sale of organic products presents itself as an
alternative to improve the quality of life of the local population and an option to improve income
for farmers, showing that the growth of this sector directly implies local development and social
empowerment Of family farmers.
