The way humans see, think and imagine nature is transformed into time and space. In this study,
we chose to research the views of farmers in the municipality of Tapes, belonging to the Butiazais
Route, on wild animals, through the analysis of the perceptions, feelings and attitudes that
permeate human relations with local species and of these with the Butiazais. The Route aims to
raise people’s awareness of the value of biodiversity, promote conservation of land and related
crops, strengthen regional identity and promote social inclusion as well as local development
through tourism, gastronomy and handicrafts. The research was carried out through semi-structured
interviews. The classes of animals, present in the region, most remembered were those of
mammals and birds. It was observed that more in-depth interdisciplinary studies are needed on
the relationship between local species and the preservation and expansion of butiazais areas
