This paper was performed with the objective of evaluating the insecticidal potential of the alcoholic
and aqueous extracts of Vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) in different doses on the
cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae). This aphid is an important pest
in the cultivation of brassicas, among them the cabbage (Brassica oleracea, variety Acephala),
being the great cause of production losses, difficult to handle and fast proliferation. Six treatments
for each test were used in the experiment: 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% (m/v), the control
used ethyl alcohol 92.6% for the alcoholic extract and Distilled water for the aqueous extract.
There was a 5% probability difference between the evaluated dosages of the alcoholic extract,
and the dosage of 5% (m/v) reached a control of 85% of the individuals. For the aqueous extract,
there was no significant difference between doses.
