Characterization of agroforestry yards in the Área Verde neighborhood in the municipality of Santarém - PA

Abstract

The present work aims to report the experience of the students of the agronomy course, group
2013, of the Federal University of the West of Pará (UFOPA) which aimed to identify the floristic
composition of the agroforestry yards in the urban area of the municipality of Santarém - Pará.
The study area was delimited within the Area Verde neighborhood, distant 7.5 km from the
Center of the city and had the participation of ten families. The main results obtained reveal the
importance of preserving the backyards in this area, since they contribute to food security and
the preservation of the region’s environment, since it has avoided the silting of water courses
that pass in or very close to backyards. In addition, it also serves as an extra source of income
in the harvest period for families living in that area.
