Abstract

A sustainable agriculture requires to make conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity
compatible. The latter is formed by the farmer, according to his knowledge, beliefs and
values. Therefore, the family history is a key factor in the agricultural activity. The agrobiodiversity
management and knowledge of farmers with and without family horticultural history in the
Platense Hosticultural Belt were analized. The indicators methodology were used. Farmers with
family horticultural history have greater knowledge and appreciation of most of the analyzed
aspects of agrobiodiversity in comparison to those without horticultural tradition. On the other
hand, there were no differences on the knowledge and appreciation of pests and natural enemies,
These could have changed due to technological changes and their recognition would be
independent of the years linked to the horticultural activity.
