Conflicts around artisanal fishing in the riverside community of Jaracuera Grande (Cametá-PA)

This paper will discuss the socio-environmental conflicts that occurred in the coastal community
of Jaracuera Grande (located in the municipality of Cametá-PA), during the consolidation
and legalization of its fishing agreement. The implementation of the fisheries agreement in
that community faced a period of crisis, conflicts and contradictions, since many people did
not want to agree to the agreement or change their management practices. In this way, they
did not respect the locally constructed norms, provoking numerous confrontations, discussion
and even violence. The reasons that led those who were against the implementation of the
agreement to stand in this way, and what happened during one of those moments of conflict in
2006, as well as the benefits brought to the locality after the event, from the local consolidation
Of the fisheries agreement.
