Agroecology within the Federal University of Uberlândia: putting the old paradigm in check?

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the story of struggle and resistance of a small group of students
and professors seeking to institutionalize the agroecology within the Federal University
of Uberlândia. Because it is a region where agribusiness reigns, with a large-scale production
and massive use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, dealing with organic and agroecological
agriculture in the region is a challenge. The trajectory traced by the groups that brought the
agroecological approach to academic environment was recovered through interviews and documentary
research. These groups took the theme from the margins to the center of discussion.
