Organic production: potential of the follow-up in the state of São Paulo

In recent years, major changes have been evident in the food market, mainly related to concern
about the effects of food on health and the environment. Statistical information on the organic
production of the state of São Paulo is little known and when existing are considered confidential.
This research aims to find official, current and useful information for organic production, in
order to demonstrate its potential; As well as to know the profile of organic agriculture in São
Paulo. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply show that the Southeast
region leads the national organic production, with 330,000 ha planted, the state of São
Paulo stands out with 1,653 producing units and 10,800 ha planted, And it is considered the
state that has the largest food market in Latin America, and it can be inferred that the same
scenario can occur with the organic ones, confirming the potential of the São Paulo follow-up.
