Abstract

The “Projeto Quintais Orgânicos de Frutas” works in the rural communities of southern Brazil
with a history of vulnerability, contributing to food security and economic and environmental
sustainability. The objective of this study was to systematize data on the territorial performance
of the Project from the production of cartographic products to understand the spatial distribution
of the backyards implanted in the period from 2005 to 2015. The results showed that, of the
2,009 backyards implanted up to 2015, the majority (1,941) is located in the state of Rio Grande
do Sul, in 168 municipalities, with a higher concentration in the region known as the “Metade
Sul”, a territory with low socioeconomic indicators. In the state of Santa Catarina, 37 backyards
were implanted in 18 municipalities, in the state of Paraná, 27 quintals in 08 municipalities. In
Uruguay, in the municipality of Rivera, 02 quintals implanted.
