Management and commercialization of guaraná (Paullinia cupana var. Sorbilis (Mart.) Ducke) by indigenous farmers of the Sateré-Mawé ethnic group

The Sateré-Mawé are considered the creators of the guaraná culture (Paullinia cupana var.
Sorbilis (Mart. Ducke) and have developed a particular form of processing of this plant of economic
and cultural importance in Brazil. The management practices adopted by the Saterés
producers, as well as the production chain and market insertion, were applied to 27 farmers at
TI Andirá-Marau. Planting, fertilization, pruning cycle, plant cover, pests and diseases, storage,
drainage, processing and certification of Sateré-Mawé guaraná production. Sateré-Mawé
agro-ecological management of guaraná uses organic fertilization, soil cover and Control of
pests and diseases. The beneficiation process contributes to the unique characteristics of The
physical-chemical quality and flavor of the seeds, distinguishing the Sateré guaraná from the
others, guaranteeing a niche market.
