Cultivation and use of medicinal plants by the producers of the Community Garden

The Municipality of Maringá has 37 community gardens where it is possible to take advantage
of spaces with abandoned or underutilized natural resources, in addition to improving the
environment and especially the quality of life of the participating families. Technical assistance
and voluntary rural and urban extension, for projects such as this one, has been developed by
CerAUP, the Reference Center for Urban and Periurban Agriculture since 2008, which was created
in the midst of the society’s movements for the AUP’s valorization through public policies
at the time. Thus, the objective of this work was to show some points as satisfaction indexes
regarding the cultivation of medicinal plants, plants cited, forms of utilization, part of the plant
used and purpose of use, through a questionnaire applied with the participants of the community
garden Villa Atenas. The space used for the cultivation of medicinal plants generated good
satisfaction rates, there is a superficial knowledge of the plants used, as well as its use and
purpose, and it is necessary to disseminate popular and scientific knowledge and knowledge
in relation to these plants.
