Abstract

Rural settlements are new productive and social units, made possible by public policies, destined to the demanding population by land. Over the years it was realized that the rural workers were settled in regions with low infrastructure. The objective of this work was to analyze the perception of the settlers of the rural settlements of the Cariri Citizenship Territory on the themes: Agroecology and Sustainability. This work was developed with the settlers of the Federal settlements of the Citizenship Territory of Cariri, Ceará. For that, questionnaires were applied to the settlers. We verified that although the settlers practice practices that are close to agroecology, such as traditional knowledge about plant and animal uses, they know little about agroecology. Thus, it is necessary to combine agro-ecological technical assistance and rural extension work capable of valorizing and recovering the knowledge of these farmers.
