Memories of the UFV student-agroecological movement

Abstract

The students organized in Agroecology Groups at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) carry
out the interlocution between two social movements, the student movement and the agro-
-ecological movement, and promote the articulation between university and society through
teaching, research and extension actions, strengthening the dialogue of academic and popular
knowledge. This story began in 1975, with the foundation of the Alpha Group of Ecology Studies,
and goes through the formation of several other agro-ecological groups organized later,
who historically worked in partnership with the Federation of Agronomy Students of Brazil
(FEAB) and other student organizations, as well as social organizations and family farmers.The
activities of these groups contributed to the construction of agroecological transition processes
in the region, the formation of new agroecological entities and differentiated professionals, as
well as the strengthening of the agroecological movement at the regional and national levels.
