The agroforestry yards are associated with the practice of family agriculture in Brazil, whose importance is related to the nutrition of the farmers themselves and the supply of the local market from the diversification of production. The association of agricultural activities with environmental sustainability has aroused interest in rural production in the context of agroecology, which in a way, makes the debate about the sustainability of rural production. In this sense, the objective of this work was to characterize the agroforestry yards of the Vila Nova community in the municipality of Capanema in the State of Pará, identifying the potentialities and obstacles to agroecological practices in rural family production. Semi-structured questionnaires were used with community farmers, records of reports from older residents and observations in the community, making it possible to know the dynamics of agroforestry yards in agricultural production. The results show that family farming in small areas suffers pressures from the impacts of surrounding farms and the use of agrochemicals that affect family production, but the very dynamics of production of the community's agroforestry yards presents some practices that do not fit with agroecology because they do not comply on environmental sustainability such as the use of chemical fertilizers in the production of cowpea and maize, alteration of the quality of the rivers to put cassava in the sauce and breeding of animals near the watercourse. The potentialities are related to community awareness in seeking preservation of some areas and the ability to assimilate adaptations of rural production.
