The urban and periurban productive gardens in Três Corações, MG
Keywords:

This study presents the first data of the project on productive gardens, started in March 2017, in
Três Corações, MG. The gardens’ project aims at mapping experiences and analyzing the quality
of the water used in the urban and peri-urban gardens of the municipality. A preliminary survey
has rectified the importance of giving visibility to experiences with urban agriculture. In this
first moment, a large number of experiences were identified, in a certain way, as invisible for
the urban community, and, at the same time, was also possible to identify several indications
of their importance for the agri-food and environmental sustainability in the city. We delimited
three areas for research, departing from farmers’ attests, which we interviewed at the farmers’
street markets. The first data indicate diversity, also that most of the water used for backyard
wetting, when done, comes from rivers, dams or mines located near the site.
