Agrarian reform has been one of the forms of recreation of the peasantry in Brazil. Between "winning" the land and staying in it there is a huge chasm. There are many shortcomings, with emphasis on the absence or deficiency of technical assistance, the high cost of production and the risks at the time of commercialization. Agroecology has been one of the alternatives to lower the cost of production and improve the feeding of families. The agrifood short circuits, such as free fairs, represent good possibilities of selling peasant products. The aim of this work is to describe and discuss the difficulties faced by peasants to stay in the field and agroecology as an alternative in a rural settlement plot, on the border of Brazil and Bolivia. The interview with a couple of peasants was the main methodological procedure adopted. Peasant empowerment and institutional partnerships around research projects are capable of producing important synergies in the implementation of processes of agroecological transition and improvement of the quality of life.
