Possibilities of socially and environmentally fair relations in the urban context of a metropole

Based on the complex reality of urban agriculture, we reflected upon the different paradigms of
the Green Revolution and Agroecology, bringing the urbanization process into the discussion.
From that perspective, we sought to evidence the permanent and conflicting dispute between
the industrial capitalist model – which oriented the green revolution and the contemporary urbanization
process – and the non hegemonic rationality of Agroecology as a possibility in the
Urban-Utopia. The urban Agroecology field is still poorly explored, and this essay is intended
to advance the construction of bridges between the agroecological field and the urbanization
processes. In order to accomplish so, we highlighted Dona Júlia’s experience, an urban gardener
who not only enables the construction of the theoretical reflexions contained in the present
essay, but also indicates paths to advance the discussion of Agroecology in metropolitan areas,
in its wide sense.
