Carbon Stocks in Rubber Based Agroforestry Systems
Keywords:

This study aimed to determine carbon stocks in two rubber based agroforestry systems in the Central Region of Rondônia, Brazil, Western Amazon. For this, we conducted a forest inventory, measuring diameter at breast height (DBH) and total height of all individuals with DBH greater than or equal to 10 cm. Carbon stock of aboveground biomass was estimated by the allometric equations, carbon stock of belowground biomass was determined by the ratio 4:1, and soil carbon stock was estimated by determination of soil density and soil organic carbon content. Total carbon stocks were: 112.42 Mg ha-1 in SAF 1 and 81.00 Mg ha-1 in SAF 2. Agroforestry systems have great potential for carbon sequestration and are efficient alternatives of sustainable production in the context of climate change.
