14ª Agroecology journey in Irati city, Paraná State: A space of resistance against the criminalization of farmers beneficiaries of the PAA

Abstract

This work aims to discuss the 14th Agroecology Jorney, which was held in the year 2015 in the
municipality of Irati in Paraná. The Agroecology Jorney is an articulation of social movements
and non-governmental organizations that defend agroecology as the basis for food production
as opposed to the agribusiness model. Every year a venue is chosen for the Journey event,
this choice is linked to local contexts of the struggle of social movements. In 2015 the city of
Irati was chosen mainly because it was one of the focus of Operation Agrofantasma of the
Federal Police with the attempt to criminalize farmers who provided food for social programs.
The materials published on the Journey will be used as a basis for discussion, as well as the
participant observation of the authors of the work. The jorney was stage of manifestation of
ecological farmers, reinforcing links of solidarity and providing the recovery of the self steem
and social recognition of peasants: the public deprivation.
