Abstract

With rapid population growth in urban areas and rising demand for food, the products are
suitable for food security. Therefore, the objective of this work is to present the possibilities
of growing food, medicines and ornamental products in small urban spaces. The study area
showed a diversification between food, medicinal and ornamental plants. The sweet potato
was the main food grown, adapting well in small spaces, due to the ease of handling and rusticity.
Sweet potatoes produced in the backyard represent carbohydrates, the main group in the
food pyramid, responsible for providing energy to the body. In this way, the area management
is carried out continuously, the backyard producers have great potential for the production of
multiple product.
